ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has blocked 11,252 SIM cards of non-filers to date and announced that this rigorous process will continue in the coming days.

The FBR and cellular mobile operators (CMOs) had previously been at odds over this issue. Initially, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) opposed the FBR’s move but later decided to remain silent.

An FBR spokesperson stated on Thursday that as of May 22, 2024, the FBR had blocked 11,252 SIM cards of non-filers. This action is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to enforce tax compliance and enhance revenue collection.

In related news, FBR Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair inaugurated the new building of the Regional Tax Office in Islamabad.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he highlighted that the new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed to offer better services to taxpayers and streamline tax collection processes.

Chairman Zubair emphasized the significant challenges faced in the current economic climate but reaffirmed the FBR’s commitment to maximizing revenue collection to support economic growth. He called on all FBR officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their work.

The chairman also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the FBR Member Admin/HR and Chief Projects, along with their teams, for the successful completion of the new building. He extended his gratitude to Pak PWD and other stakeholders for their ongoing support and cooperation.
